Taugwonk

On June 30, 1684, Moses Palmer and the brothers, Thomas and Efraim Miner reviewed the land boundaries of Elihu Cheseborough, including 300 acres at Taugwonk.

135 Taugwonk Road is home to an English barn, a 1 ½-story eave-entry bank barn with a gable-roof. The name “30 by 40” originates from its size (in feet), which was large enough for 1 family and could service about 100 acres. Located directly along the west side of Taugwonk Road, the barn is surrounded on the north and west sides by a grassy field, which leads to a larger agricultural field to the north. Go to www.connecticutbarns.org, where the data, historical narrative and analysis, images gathered and other barn related information can be retrieved by visitors, residents, scholars, and barn enthusiasts from across the country.

Today, Taugwonk Road is home to many fine homes as well as Stonington Vineyard, Stonington Country Club and the US Coast Guard Foundation.
